Many people want the flexibility and ease being able to work at home, while maintaining an income with good wages or a business with high profits. Mothers and caregivers, called to their homes and their family may need the extra income or have a few extra hours to take advantage of. Below are some business or money-making opportunities that will allow you to fulfill your responsibilities at home, stay in the easy and relaxing environment that you love, while making money.

My studio is not an exceptional place, in and of itself. It is just four walls with one unimpressive window. But it is significant to me because like most creative people, I often feel that irrefutable draw to create. Since I was young, I always dreamed of a studio... a vibrant, ecclectic space filled with paintings, pottery, and pretty textiles. So, I am very happy to finally have one! Also, it has been a necessary space as my business has grown because it also houses all my inventory {some of it sizable} and gives my staff an organized place to work.
1. Home Business Idea: Where to Sell Handmade Items? On Etsy!
Have a specialty item that you can make at home? Esty is a buying and selling network for all things handmade. Founded in 2005, Etsy quickly soared to the top of the handicrafts market and now has buyers and sellers from over 150 countries, with many new buyers and sellers added daily. Etsy's handmade merchandise often make it to the top of Google search engines.
Items that can be sold on Etsy must fit into at least one of these three categories:
1. Handmade: Goods handmade by you.
2. Supplies: Commercial or handmade crafting supplies.
3. Vintage: Items 20 years or older with vintage appeal.
Several stay-at-home moms have begun listing their handcrafted goods on Etsy and gotten such a positive response that they are now able to get direct referrals and can sell their items outside of Etsy's website as well. Jessica Haley, founder of Mia Joie, used to be a college teacher until she sold a few handmade felt toddler shoes on Etsy. She had such overwhelming delight from her customers, that she has teaching and is now exclusively designing and creating Joy Folie shoes and toddler accessories in her creative and inspiring design studio in her home. Nearly all her products are sold within minutes of first being listed on Etsy. Jessica Haley's blog is a great way to follow her success as a small business-owner who makes money easily from home.
One small down side of listing items on Etsy is that you are charged 20 cents for each item listed, and if your item sells, you are charged a 3.5% sales fee. However, the success rate for handmade items sold is much, much better for Etsy than it is for huge selling networks like Ebay or Amazon. Twenty cents is a small price to pay for excellent publicity and a quick and easy launch into the wonderful world of small home business.
2. Earn Money at Home: Love Dogs? Breed and Sell Puppies from Home
Dog breeding is a rewarding and richly profitable business that is easy to do from home, and can be a great money-making opportunity for responsible kids and teens as well. Purebred dogs that are in high demand as pets or show dogs quickly pay for the breeding costs. They key is to purchase a dog that will fit in with your family as a beloved pet, as well as have a good lineage and be a popular pet or show breed. I have known several young people who have created successful breeding businesses by owning one or two female dogs of their own and mating their dogs with a sire for a small fee. The puppies were easily cared for and given the proper veterinary procedures to make them legally sellable, they were listed for sale and were often claimed and bought by the time the puppies were ready to go to new homes. Depending on the breed of dog and the number of puppies per litter, each litter could easily bring in thousands to ten-thousands of dollars.

If you have special knowledge in an area of academics or know how to play a musical instrument well, you might consider giving lessons or tutoring at your home. Many parents are looking for personalized help for their children who are struggling academically, and will be willing to pay you to spend the time and effort their children need. Many aspiring musicians are not willing or able to pay for music lessons from a high-end music studio, but would love the personalized attention, affordable rates, and home environment of your own in-home music studio. Advertise locally, in your neighborhood or city newspaper, on your neighborhood bulletin board, on craigslist, or at a nearby school. If your methods work and children and parents appreciate what you are doing, you will also receive customers through word-of-mouth.
Long-distance writing and literature courses for all ages are also popular, especially amongst the homeschooling community. The rise of internet technology has made correspondence teaching even easier, as email, chat, skype, web conferences, and free downloadable word processing software is available for your use. Set up a website or blog for your students to check weekly assignments, post questions in the forum, and read articles pertaining to what they are learning. Advertise in national (or international!) educational newsletters and magazines, home-educating publications, or website directories designed to connect students with tutors.

Music teachers can become members of their statewide music teachers association or the Music Teacher's National Association, where your name and contact info will be published annually in the association's directory. Hi Rose! I've read a lot of success stories about Etsy, and also heard from several people that it gets much better publicity than amazon or ebay as far as selling handmade items goes. It's much more designed for that than any other website, ranks top in a lot of search engines, and seems the easiest to use of all the sites I've visited.

Though I don't know anyone personally who has sold artwork on Etsy, a quick look at the website shows hundreds of paintings, wall art, drawings, pottery, sculptures, etc., ranging from five dollars to hundreds of dollars, in all different styles and themes. It looks to me like it would be a great place for up-and-coming artists to get their name and work out there for the public to admire and purchase. People who have done well on Etsy often sell out of whatever items they post within minutes.
If you enjoy dogs and having puppies around, you might consider dog breeding! I have heard vet bills can get expensive for all those puppies, but if you pick a popular or hard-to-get breed, you'll have no trouble making a huge profit on each litter.

I ask that question as you may have a passion about a certain subject that you could earn money from online. If you know a lot of information about a certain subject then you can make serious money by teaching other people how to understand your hobby

for me i personally like triond because one article can generate residual income for the next 5 years with no additional effort.

You know, for the past couple years I was having a really tough time, with life situations, and financially because of it, if only I knew what I know now when i got out of highschool lol. I also believe that we are good at those things which we enjoy most, and that motivation is key in finding God's calling on our lives. Reading at least one book a week on your related field is great advice! I can say, along with you, that this technique will get you to the top of your field and make you a leader and and expert in your calling and career. This is a day and age in which people watch TV more than they read books, and that automatically drains their creativity and slows connecting brain pathways. Reading a book a week will make you farther ahead than probably 99.5% of the population!

You should not be encouraging more dog-breeding. There are literally millions of unwanted dogs and puppies in USA and elsewhere with no one who wants them. They are mostly put down (read: killed). People who want a pet dog: go to your local dog pound.
Doglover, thank you for sharing your opinion! I did think about that as I was writing, because I know there are many unwanted dogs (though I didn't know it was millions). There are also many people who want dogs and who will take very good care of them. I think it is the breeder's responsibility to make sure their buyers will take good care of the dogs, just as an adoption agency for children will be very cautious before giving a child to just anybody. Perhaps the breeders could even volunteer to take back any of the dogs they have sold when the buyers find out they cannot take care of them.

I had a friend who was very happy with etsy. She could not wear pierced earrings and created quite a few stylish pairs for people without pierced ears.
We in NYC are forever hustling and finding a way to make money. I think we make a sell everything here.

Thanks for visiting! As any new business owner will tell you, earning money is hard work. Yes, I can see 15-18 hour days being needed to really start generating an income online, especially if you depend on AdSense for most of that income. As one of the previous commenters pointed out, you must become an expert in your field, and work to provide the best service on the market, before you can even start focusing on the money you want to make.
I took a look at your site, and the service you would render (free home decorating consulting) sounds like a great and sellable service! However, the ads on your page screamed and blinked and flashed at me so much that even if I had been interested in your service, I would instantly have clicked out of your page because of it's commercialism. I am no expert in web page optimization, but that was my impression. You might benefit from signing up for Google Analytics if you haven't already. That will tell you where your visitors are coming from, what they are looking for, and how quickly they click away from your page.

I have a few friends who have started dog breeding in high school and continued their breeding business successfully full time after high school. One young breeder I know of found a breed of dog that is rare and expensive. She bought a breeding pair, and now makes several thousand dollars on every puppy. I encourage you to do some more research if you're interested!

I've heard Donald Trump recommend several multi-level marketing schemes recently and they are never very up-front about what you will actually be doing if you join the company-- except for recruiting other people, of course. Can't say I would recommend trying something like that yourself. My business ideas don't depend on recruiting other people or feeding money into a system. Thanks for leaving your idea, though, and I'll be glad to hear your honest opinion sometime about how it's working out.
